Jackie's Lasagna

Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound lean ground pork
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ⅛ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
  • 4 (6 ounce) cans water
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 ounces cottage cheese
  • 1 pound shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1 package lasagna pasta
Instructions
  1. In a large pan, add olive oil, beef and pork.
  2. Cook until meat is cooked through.
  3. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, sugar and oregano.
  4. Add tomato paste, water and Parmesan cheese
  5. Simmer on low heat for 30-45 minutes.
  6. In a large bowl, stir together mozzarella cheese, cottage cheese and parsley...reserving ½ cup mozzarella cheese.
  7. Prepare lasagna pasta according to directions, drain and cool.
  8. In a large casserole dish, add one-third of each of the following in order listed, three times to create three layers.
  9. sauce
  10. cheese filling
  11. lasagna noodles
  12. Sprinkle reserved mozzarella on top of casserole.
  13. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes, covering the top for the first 25 minutes.
